Who we are

Manny Diaz has formulated and moved public policy in some of the most impactful arenas in California. That includes public education, infrastructure and transportation, insurance, tribal gaming, environmental issues, public health and wellness, land use and general planning, economic and community development, public safety, city core redevelopment, affordable housing, sustainability of the natural environment, goods movement, and energy and water conservation policies.

A native Californian, Manny spent many years channeling a passion for an economically and environmentally thriving state into leadership positions at all levels of government – and now he does the same for clients of Diaz & Associates. He maintains strong relationships with leaders in the California State Legislature and executive branch and works closely with the California Latino Legislative Caucus, Black Legislative Caucus, Asian Caucus, Women’s Caucus and the New Dem Caucus. He also has established good working relationships with many local elected officials throughout California, and is well respected amongst business and community leaders throughout the state.

As a former California State Assemblyman, Manny earned a reputation as a policymaker who was both passionate and pragmatic, known for bringing disparate interests together to achieve meaningful success. He authored state legislation for practical energy policies, protected local redevelopment funds, and championed state transportation investments, comprehensive affordable housing policies, affordable children’s health insurance, and smart public education policies. While on the San Jose City Council and Planning Commission, Manny advocated for revitalization and planning efforts that laid the groundwork for a stronger community, as well as creating financing opportunities for local municipalities, infrastructure public-private partnerships and reasonable environmental measures.

Over the years, Manny has served on many key local public policy boards and state legislative policy committees, including:

  • California State Assembly Budget/Policy Committees:

  • Appropriations, Local Government, Public Safety, Budget,

  • Education, Human Services, Insurance, Utilities & Commerce,

Manny graduated from San Francisco State University with a B.S. in Engineering and began his professional career with Pacific Gas & Electric, where he performed technical energy conservation audits for major industrial and commercial customers that resulted in millions of dollars of saved energy costs
